Working in Westford

Your local electricians for Westford.

Ryan Gath Electric is based in Westford, so a lot of our calls come from neighbors. We know the town’s mix well: the older homes around the town common and in the villages of Graniteville, Forge Village, Nabnasset and Parker Village, the 1970s through ’90s colonials that fill out most neighborhoods, and the newer construction still going up along the edges of town.

Being local means shorter drive times and quicker answers. It also means we know the Westford wiring inspector’s expectations and the way houses here tend to be built. When a customer on a cul-de-sac off Plain Road calls about a tripping breaker, there’s a good chance we’ve already worked in a house built by the same developer in the same decade.

“He was on time. He was knowledgable and explained everything very well. He was friendly, helpful and efficient. He finished everything in one day even though he had to go and get a part, which he did very quickly. I was very pleased.”

Homes & buildings in Westford

Orchards, stone walls and long driveways.

Westford still feels semi-rural in plenty of places, with orchards, woods and long private driveways. That character comes with electrical realities. Many homes sit on long overhead service runs through trees, so storm outages can last longer here than in denser towns closer to Boston. Backup generators and generator inlets are among our most common Westford projects.

The big 1980s and ’90s colonials that make up a lot of the housing stock were often built with 100- or 150-amp services. As owners add heat pumps, finish basements and buy EVs, many of those panels are running out of room. We do a lot of load calculations and panel upgrades here, along with trenching to detached garages and barns.

Before you start

Planning a project in Westford.

Because we’re based here, Westford is where we can most easily fit in a site visit for an estimate, often within the same week. It’s also where we get the most calls for multi-part projects: a generator plus a panel upgrade, or trenching to a barn plus an EV charger in the detached garage. Planning those together saves you money on permits, trenching and panel work.

Westford FAQ

Electrical questions from Westford

Are you really based in Westford?

Yes. Our address is on Main Street in Westford, and a large share of our work is in town and the surrounding communities.

Do Westford homes need a permit for a generator?

Generator installations involve electrical work that’s permitted and inspected in Westford, and gas connections have their own requirements. We handle the electrical permitting.

My house is on a long driveway. Can you still install an EV charger in the detached garage?

Yes. We can trench and run an underground feed to a detached garage and install the charger there.

Do you do small jobs in Westford too?

Yes. We’re happy to handle a single outlet, a fixture swap or a tripping breaker. Being close by makes small jobs practical for us.
