Home Automation
Control that feels simple.
Home automation is at its best when nobody in the house has to think about it. Lights come up gently in the morning, the porch light turns on at dusk, one keypad by the door turns off everything downstairs, and the basement lights go off when nobody’s there. It saves energy, and after a week you wonder how you lived without it.
We install lighting control systems, smart switches and dimmers, occupancy and vacancy sensors, and scene keypads. We work with Lutron RadioRA systems, a wireless platform that can manage lighting, shades, temperature and more from wall keypads, remotes or your phone.
The electrical side is where these systems succeed or fail. Smart devices need the right wiring in the box, often including a neutral, and LED fixtures need dimmers that are actually compatible with them. We sort that out before anything goes on the wall.
“Michael, an electrician for Ryan Gath Electric, installed my shower room light/fan. He arrived as scheduled and did an excellent job in under an hour. The bathroom was cleaned up quickly.”
Signs to watch for
What automation can do for you.
- 01
Scenes
One button sets several lights at once: dinner, movie night, goodnight or away.
- 02
Schedules and astronomic timers
Exterior lights that follow sunset and sunrise all year without adjustment.
- 03
Occupancy sensors
Lights that turn off in empty rooms, closets and basements automatically.
- 04
Remote control
Check and adjust lights from your phone while you’re away.
- 05
Shades and more
With systems like RadioRA, shades and other devices can join the same controls.
- 06
Fewer switches on the wall
Replace banks of switches with a single clean keypad.
What the job involves
From idea to a house that just works.
- 1
Talk about routines
How you use each room and what bothers you about the current switches.
- 2
Check the wiring
Neutrals, box sizes and fixture compatibility, so devices work reliably.
- 3
Design the system
Which rooms, which devices, what scenes and where keypads go.
- 4
Install and program
Devices installed, scenes and schedules programmed to your routines.
- 5
Teach and tweak
We show you how it works and adjust scenes after you’ve lived with them.
Good to know
Good to know before you automate.
Start with the rooms you use most. Kitchens, family rooms and entryways get the most benefit from scenes and keypads, while closets, basements and garages are ideal for occupancy or vacancy sensors. You don’t have to automate the whole house at once to see the difference.
Reliability comes from the wiring. Many smart dimmers and switches need a neutral conductor in the box and enough room for a larger device. Older homes sometimes need a small wiring change to support them. We check each location before recommending hardware, so you don’t end up with a device that works one week and flickers the next.
Keep manual control simple. Good automation still works from the wall. Guests, babysitters and future owners should be able to walk into a room and turn on the lights without an app. We lay out keypads and labels so the system is intuitive for everyone, not just the person who programmed it.
Plan for updates. Wireless systems receive firmware updates and occasionally need attention. We’ll explain how your system is set up and what to do if something stops responding.
Why it matters
Convenience that pays its way.
Automated lighting cuts waste in the places lights get left on most: basements, closets, garages and exterior fixtures. Paired with efficient LED fixtures, the savings add up.
It also adds security and peace of mind. Lights on schedules make a house look lived-in while you’re away, and you can check on things from your phone.

Home Automation FAQ
Questions we get about this work
Can smart switches work in an older house?
Often, but many need a neutral wire in the switch box, which some older homes lack. We check and choose devices that work with your wiring.
Do I need Wi-Fi for automation?
It depends on the system. Some use their own wireless network and work without internet; phone control from away usually needs it.
Can you add automation a room at a time?
Yes. Systems like RadioRA can start small and grow.
Will my existing fixtures work with smart dimmers?
Most modern dimmable LED fixtures will, but compatibility varies. We check before installing.
