Lighting

Light changes how a room feels.

Good lighting is mostly invisible. You notice the room, not the fixtures. That takes planning: where the cans land relative to cabinets and furniture, what color temperature the LEDs are, how dimmers are grouped, and whether the light falls on the counter or on the back of your head.

We install every kind of residential lighting, and a lot of our favorite work is in our gallery: perimeter LED coves in modern living rooms, coffered ceilings with hidden strips, pendants over kitchen islands, backlit bathroom mirrors, sconces on textured walls, and soffit lights that make a house look finished at night.

If you’re working with a designer, we’ll install to their plan. If you just want the dark kitchen fixed, we’ll help you lay it out ourselves, install it cleanly, and set up dimming that actually works with LED fixtures.

“Michael, an electrician for Ryan Gath Electric, installed my shower room light/fan. He arrived as scheduled and did an excellent job in under an hour. The bathroom was cleaned up quickly.”

Signs to watch for

Lighting projects we do often.

  • 01

    Recessed lighting

Slim LED wafers and adjustable cans laid out on a real grid, with minimal ceiling damage in finished rooms.

  • 02

    Pendants and chandeliers

Heavy fixtures need proper support. We brace boxes and hang at heights that work with the table or island.

  • 03

    LED cove and tape lighting

Tray ceilings, coffers, toe kicks and shelves, with drivers placed where they can be serviced.

  • 04

    Under-cabinet lighting

Task light on the counter where you actually work, with no visible cords.

  • 05

    Bathroom lighting

Vanity lights, backlit mirrors and damp-rated fixtures with the right protection.

  • 06

    Outdoor and landscape

Wall lights, soffit downlights, path lighting and security lighting on timers or sensors.

What the job involves

How a lighting project comes together.

  1. 1

    Talk through the room

What happens there, what bothers you about the current light, and the look you want.

  2. 2

    Layout and fixture selection

We lay out fixture locations, color temperature and dimming zones, and recommend fixtures if you need them.

  3. 3

    Estimate and permit

A written price, then permit filing where required.

  4. 4

    Install

Careful cutting, proper boxes and supports, compatible dimmers, and drivers placed for future service.

  5. 5

    Aim, dim and adjust

We set dimmer trims, aim adjustable fixtures and make sure it all looks right at night.

Good to know

Good to know before a lighting project.

Layer the light. Most rooms look best with a mix of ambient light (recessed or ceiling fixtures), task light (under-cabinet, vanity, reading lights) and accent light (sconces, coves, picture lights). Relying on one type usually leaves rooms either glaring or gloomy.

Keep color temperature consistent. Mixing warm and cool LEDs in the same room is one of the most common lighting mistakes. We help you choose a color temperature and stick with it, so fixtures from different manufacturers still look like they belong together.

Why it matters

Better light, lower bills.

Modern LED fixtures use a fraction of the power of old incandescent and halogen lights and last far longer. Paired with the right dimmers and controls, they let you set a room for cooking, reading or a quiet evening without changing a bulb.

Lighting is also one of the most visible upgrades you can make. It changes how rooms photograph, how spacious they feel, and how a house looks from the street after dark.

Lighting FAQ

Questions we get about this work

Can you add recessed lights to a finished ceiling?

Yes. Remodel-style LED fixtures and careful cable fishing let us add recessed lighting with small openings. Access from an attic above makes it even easier.

Why do my LED lights flicker on a dimmer?

Usually the dimmer isn’t compatible with the LED fixtures or isn’t trimmed correctly. We match dimmers to fixtures and adjust them.

What color temperature should I choose?

Warm white, around 2700K to 3000K, suits most living spaces. Slightly cooler light can work in kitchens and workspaces. We can show you the difference.

Do you install fixtures I buy myself?

Yes. Tell us what you have so we can confirm it suits the location and mounting box.
