Emergency Electrician

First, make it safe. Then call.

If you smell smoke, see flames or sparks that won’t stop, or someone has been shocked, get everyone out and call 911. The fire department comes first. Once the scene is safe, we can help with the electrical side.

For urgent problems that aren’t an active fire, like a breaker that trips instantly every time you reset it, part of the house without power, an outlet or panel that’s hot to the touch, or water where it shouldn’t be near wiring, call us at (978) 569-4775. Describe what’s happening and we’ll tell you what to shut off, what to leave alone, and how quickly we can get there.

Ryan Gath Electric provides emergency electrical repairs across our service area. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 4:30. Call for current availability outside those hours. Our goal on every emergency call is the same: make it safe, find the cause, and fix it properly rather than patching it for the night.

“He was on time. He was knowledgable and explained everything very well. He was friendly, helpful and efficient. He finished everything in one day even though he had to go and get a part, which he did very quickly. I was very pleased.”

Signs to watch for

What counts as an electrical emergency.

When in doubt, call. We’d rather talk you through it than have you guess.

  • 01

    Burning smell or smoke

From an outlet, switch, fixture or the panel. If there’s smoke or flame, call 911 first.

  • 02

    Hot panel or outlet

Heat means a failing connection. Turn off the affected circuit if you can do so safely.

  • 03

    Partial power loss

Half the house out, or lights very dim or very bright, can signal a service problem.

  • 04

    Breaker that trips instantly

An immediate trip on reset points to a short or ground fault. Leave it off.

  • 05

    Water and wiring

Flooding, a roof leak into fixtures, or a wet panel. Stay out of the water and call.

  • 06

    Storm damage

A tree on the service drop or a damaged meter. Call your utility for lines, and us for the house side.

What the job involves

What happens when you call.

  1. 1

    We talk you through it

What to shut off, what to avoid, and whether to call 911 or the utility first.

  2. 2

We get there as fast as we can

Emergency calls get priority in the schedule.

  3. 3

    Make it safe

We isolate the problem so the rest of the house can be used safely.

  4. 4

    Find the cause

Methodical testing to locate the fault, not just reset it.

  5. 5

    Repair or plan the repair

We fix it on the spot when we can, or make it safe and schedule the full repair with a written estimate.

Good to know

Good to know while you wait.

If a circuit is causing trouble, turning its breaker off is usually the safest thing you can do until we arrive. Don’t open the panel cover, and don’t try to tighten or pull anything inside it.

Why it matters

Fast, but not rushed.

Emergencies tempt everyone toward the quick fix: reset the breaker again, wrap some tape, leave the extension cord running. Most of those buy a few hours and create a bigger problem. We aim to understand what actually failed so it doesn’t happen again next week.

We’re also straight with you about what can wait. Not every scary moment needs an overnight repair, and we’ll tell you honestly when the safe answer is to leave a circuit off until morning.

Emergency Electrician FAQ

Questions we get about this work

Should I call 911 or an electrician?

If there’s smoke, fire, sparking that won’t stop, or someone has been shocked, call 911 first. For hot outlets, partial outages or breakers that won’t reset, call us at (978) 569-4775.

A tree took down my power line. Who do I call?

Your utility company for the lines and service drop. Stay far away from downed wires. If the mast, meter or wiring on your house is damaged, call us for that part of the repair.

Can I keep resetting a breaker that trips?

No. Repeated resets can overheat wiring. Leave it off and call.

Do you offer emergency service outside business hours?

Call (978) 569-4775 for current availability. We’ll tell you honestly how quickly we can help.
